The German authorities have said that they have decided to reduce the student visa fee for Indians.
The news was announced by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai. The Consulate said that citizens of India will now have to pay a reduced price for the German national visa.
Students from India who wish to pursue their studies in Germany have to apply for a national visa, which allows them to stay in the country for a period of over 90 days. Since student visa falls under the national visa, it means that Indian students will also benefit from the changes.
According to the Consulate, in line with the newly made changes, the national visa fee has been reduced to 6,000 INR (鈧75) for adults, in this case for students too, and to 3,000 INR (鈧37,50) for minors, Studying-in-Germany.org reports.

Students from India who wish to apply for a German visa need, among other things need to fill out the application form, provide photos that meet biometric photo requirements, open a blocked bank account, and schedule their appointment.

The German authorities are currently giving priority to processing student visas. The official website of the German Missions in India has explained that students who wish to study Bachelor courses in Germany and who have scored more than 90 per cent aggregate in 12th Standard can now submit their application for a German National Visa directly at the Service Provider VFS Global, therefore, skipping the wait time for an interview appointment at the German Mission.
Additionally, the same has noted that the visa fee is to be paid at the end of the visa appointment and pointed out that the fee is not refundable even if the visa is rejected.
The German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD) said that the number of Indians choosing Germany as their study destination continued to increase even though students faced visa-related issues.
Data show that in the 2020/2021 school year, more than 416,430 international students were studying at higher education institutions in Germany. The majority of students were from China, India, Russia, Australia, and Italy, among others.
